Introduction
This is a regional postgraduate programme for enhancement of skills in Agricultural information and communication management. The programme was initiated by ASARECA, Regional Agricultural Information Network (RAIN) and participating Universities from Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda. The programe aims to produce AICM experts at the MSc. Level with competence to operate in agricultural information systems, retooling others in the sector, enhance the ICT/ICM content of existing MSC. Programmes in Agricultural Sciences and strengthen the capacity of universities in the region.
The programme development process started with the training needs assessment in (TNA) IN 2004. National and international partners of RAIN were involved and Universities and other stakeholders extensively consulted. RAIN involved a wide range of stakeholders and National Stakeholders workshops were held in Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda. Development team was joined by subject matter specialists in technical working groups to review and evaluate the draft proposals. Prof. A. Mwang’ombe, principal, CAVs was involved and spearheaded Edulink proposal writing at the TWG3 workshop in Entebbe, 7-10 August 2007. The programme was presented to the university of Nairobi Senate in 2008 and rolled out same year. The programme is therefore the brainchild of Prof. A. Mwang’ombe. [8]
