Prof. John Mburu, Chairman of the Department, was excited because of the good performance of the University of Nairobi. The overall University of Nairobi was number one (1) but last year was number three (3) showing very great improvement. Joyce Waithira Kamau was the second (2) candidate who performed very well and made our Department very proud. First-year students were told to keep up the standard in the coming academic year 2020/2021.
Joyce reported how they used to meet in the evening after lectures and assisted one another with any topic which was challenging in class during the day. That is how they managed to become number one (1). When asked which unit she liked most during the training she said modeling and would desire to pursue it even for further studies.
Prof. Willis Kosura is the Co-coordinator of AERC. He gave a background of how the Collaborative Masters in Agricultural and Applied Economics (CMAAE) started. It involves about seven (7) countries and every year about ten (10) students go to Pretoria, South Africa for one semester. After that they come back they bank on writing their proposals with a goal to finish up their Masters within two (2) years. He said many students who qualified with CMAAE are employed in many research organizations like ILRI, KEFRI, and KARLO. He challenged the students to work hard for there are many opportunities ahead even of paper presentations in many other parts of the world such as Belgium, Europe, etc. If you want to know more about AERC use the following website https://aercafrica.org/.
