In-Country Policy Brief Dissemination Workshop Held at Qaribu Inn in Mountain View, Nairobi Kenya On Wednesday, 29th March 2023 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
The role of Agriculture in ending poverty and hunger has been recognized in many agricultural development initiatives. However, identifying and implementing enabling policies and evaluating their impacts remain a challenge to the development of the sector. This has necessitated the need for interventions to strengthen the capacity for evidence-based planning, implementation and review, and to increase the capacity to generate, analyze and use relevant data, information, knowledge and innovations.
Based on this, Department of Agricultural Economics in collaboration with Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Lund University, University of Gothenburg and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), and other collaborators developed Mentorship and Capacity Building of Young Scientists in East Africa Project domiciled under the AgriFoSe 2030 Project. The program’s aim is to help researchers synthesize and translate existing or emerging science into policy and practice and develop capacity to achieve expected results.
The project held the In-Country Policy Brief Dissemination Workshop for the Kenyan team 2 in the project at Qaribu Inn in Mountain View, Nairobi Kenya On Wednesday, 29th March 2023. The workshop brought together participants from the University of Nairobi, Egerton University, The University of Eldoret, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), as well as policy experts. A similar event will be held in the course of April for participants from Uganda under the Cohort 2.
The Workshop was an opportunity for mentees under the project to present the policy briefs they have developed under guidance from their mentors, and get feedback on how they can enhance the structure, content, and language of the policy briefs for effective communication from experts in Policy and Science. The workshop’s was a great step in meeting AgriFoSe's commitment to improve scientists' ability to synthesize, analyze, and communicate science to a variety of stakeholders.
