Staff Exchange Visit at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) in Bondo
The World Bank-supported Centre for Excellence at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) has requested the Department of Agricultural Economics of the University of Nairobi to nominate academic staff to participate in a staff exchange programme in its research project focusing on value addition of edible insects and their commercialization. The exchange programme includes external staff and students’ visits for at least 2 weeks to engage in research, mentoring and supervision of postgraduate students. The programme also has provisions for financial support of MSc. and PhD students’ thesis research.
In order to initiate the collaboration, two academic members of staff from the Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Nairobi (Dr. David Jakinda Otieno and Dr. Evans Chimoita) visited JOOUST on Monday 10th January 2022. During the visit, discussions were held on the following aspects of the proposed exchange collaboration:
- Collaboration agreement/memorandum of understanding (MOU).
- Research focus for postgraduate students to be enlisted in the collaboration.
- Research facilities available for visiting staff and students.
It was agreed that JOOUST will prepare a draft MOU for the proposed collaboration and share with Department of Agricultural Economics for processing and approval within one month. Upon approval of the MOU, nominated staff and students from the University of Nairobi are welcome to begin their exchange visits at JOOUST from mid-February 2022.
