Twiga is an e-commerce and m-commerce technology platform aiding farmers across the country link to markets in urban areas currently in Nairobi, Machakos and Kiambu Counties.It was built around a simple notion: through digital marketplaces you can build efficient logistics, reduce post-harvest loss, and pay farmers more while delivering to consumers for less.Twiga aims to serve the large informal fresh fruit and vegetable market with the consistent supply of safe, nutritious, and traceable produce for Kenyan consumers .
Twiga is a company that creates technology platforms for aiding agricultural farmers to market tomatoes, potatoes, onions, watermelon and bananas by linking them to the market or buying their products and sell them to small scale vendors in the market. It mainly operates in the following counties; Nairobi, Machakos and Kiambu. Also Twiga Foods stores and grade the agricultural produce from farmers before they market them. Their main customers are the small scale vendors like the mama mboga and small kiosks dealing with agricultural products around the above named counties. These are the main source of agricultural produce across the country; Central like Meru, Kirinyaga, Embu, Kajiando, Makueni, Narok, Nakuru, Nyandarua and Uasin Gishu. Twiga also acts as a broker thereby linking farmers to various markets across the country. The Company also teaches agricultural farmers different agronomic practices and knowledge to improve their production.
Twiga incorporates some of our students under the Faculty of Agriculture as agronomists, farm managers and farm accountants for record keeping. There was a thorough interaction between the students and the Company officials who were;
