East African Community Scholarship Programme

The EAC Scholarship Programme is an initiative of the East African Community (EAC), the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) and German Development Bank- KfW. The project begun in 2018 when the EAC and IUCEA entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with KfW geared towards the training of students within the EAC Region. This Project aims at creating future change agents, who identify themselves with the integration agenda of the EAC and are willing to share economic and development-oriented expert knowledge.

University of Nairobi/University of Helsinki Call for Graduate (PhD & Masters) Fellowship Applications

The Department of Geography & Environmental Studies, University of Nairobi is calling for applications for PhD and masters fellowships under the Earth Observation and Environmental Sensing for Climate-smart Sustainable Agropastoral Ecosystem Transformation in East Africa (ESSA) Programme to be undertaken in partnership with the Department of Geosciences and Geography, University of Helsinki in Finland. The programme will offer a PhD fellowship tenable at University of Helsinki and a masters fellowship at University of Nairobi.

The African Seed Access Index (TASAI) is in Need of a Data Analyst

The African Seed Access Index (TASAI) is a research project that analyzes national seed sectors in Africa. It is coordinated by the nonprofit organization TASAI Inc. TASAI collects data on 22 indicators to measure, track, and compare formal seed sectors across African countries. With a growing geographic scope that covers 21 countries to date, TASAI promotes enabling environments for competitive seed systems that enhance access to locally adapted, affordable, and high-quality, improved seeds targeting smallholder farmers.

KARLO Research Assistant Accompanies a Student and Lectures in Kapsengere to offer Agricultural Extension Services to a Legume Farmer

A legume farmer in Kapsengere, Nandi County was on  September 4th,2020 overjoyed to have been visited by two lectures from the department who are Dr. Evans Ligare Chimoita and Dr. David Jakinda Otieno and a postgraduate student called Susan Oburu.in their company also was a KARLO research assistant.The team  advised the farmer on how to increase her legume yields by bettering her farming methods.

CMAAE Student in Field Survey at Kapkerer, Nandi County

Susan Oburu is a postgraduate student in Collaborative Masters in Agricultural and Applied Economics(CMAAE) in the department of Agricultural Economics.She went for a field survey in Kapkerer, Nandi County on September 3rd, 2020;she was accompanied by Dr. David Jakinda Otieno and Dr. Evans Ligare Chimoita who are lecturers from the department of Agricultural Economics.A local field guide introduced the team to the farmers as they can gain valuable information the agricultural extension services.

FoodLAND Project Kicks Off Today

FoodLAND aims at enhancing the diversity of food production and consumption in six African countries displaying different stages of the nutrition transition. To this end, FoodLAND will create a network of 14 local Food Hubs that will aggregate relevant actors and serve as injection points for the introduction of innovations.
