The VC of University of Nairobi Prof. S. Kiama, DVC Academic Affairs Prof. J. Ogeng'o, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Prof. R. Nyikal and the chairman of LARMAT today the 6th of November 2022, attended the meeting for signing of the Performance Contract 2021/2022. The chairman of Agricultural Economics Dr. J. Nzuma was in attendance.

Sustainable Management and Operations (SuMO) is a new three year PhD program. It is planned to be offered at the Kuehne Logistics University (KLU) through the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Nairobi, by the Africa Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Operations for Resource Management and Food Supply.
Visiting lecturer Prof. Gor C.O from Jaramogi oginga odinga University held a talk for first years from the department of Agricultural Economics. Prof Gor presented on Agripreneurship. The talk was based on the fact that economies in developing countries mostly depend on Agriculture. According to RoK (2012) agriculture is the mainstay of Kenya’s economy, currently contributing 24 per cent of the GDP directly, and another 27 per cent indirectly.
The talk was held on 10th Dec 2021 at Upper Kabete Campus.
In Nyeri County, an estimated 80% of the households keep dairy animals deriving their livelihoods from the sub-sector. In the financial year 2019/2020, the Nyeri County Government estimated that dairy farmers earned an estimated KES 3.5 billion positioning dairy production as a major enterprise in the County.

The Department of Agricultural Economics and The Department of Management Science and Project Planning, University of Nairobi have nominated 10 students to participate in the ongoing ‘Student Autumn School on Sustainability and Operations Management’ in Ghana. The Autumn School is organized by Kühne Foundation with support from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The week-long program will raise awareness on sustainable operations among young students.
